Define Navigation dialog box

Use the Define Navigation Button dialog box to assign navigation to a navigation button. In addition to selecting the location to which the button will navigate when the button is clicked, use this dialog box to configure the visual effects that will accompany the navigation, and to select the navigation options you want to apply (for example, restoring all devices at the time of the navigation).

To open this dialog box select the Navigate option in the Button dialog box, and then click the Define Navigation button.

Navigation type

Select the type of navigation to be performed when the Navigation button is clicked:

• Camera navigation – Select this option to assign a specific location in your model to the button. When the user clicks the navigation button, the user is navigated to the location you specified for the button.

  To specify the destination for the camera navigation, click the Navigate To button and then navigate to the location you want in the model. For more information, see [link to procedure].

• Return navigation – Select this option to retrace camera navigation, one step at a time. Return navigation works much like using the Back button in a web browser. When the user clicks the navigation button, the model retraces camera navigation, one step at a time.

• Page navigation – Select this option to have the button navigate to the previous page on the current layer, the next page on the current layer, or the model's home page (as defined in the Page Size and Runtime Options dialog box).

When you select either the Return navigation or Page navigation option, the Use Default Icon check box becomes available.

Use Default Icon

Select this check box to display the default icon () for the Return navigation or Page navigation button.

Using the default icon allows you to easily assign a consistent image to the navigation button.

To assign text or a different image to the button, clear this check box and then use the options in the Button dialog box to specify the picture or text you want to use. For more information, see Specifying a button's appearance.

Visual Effect

Use this option to select the visual effect (if any) that you want to assign to the Navigation button. Visual effects include things like Dissolve, Wipe left to right, and Cascade. The visual effect you choose appears when the model user clicks the Navigation button.

Effect to black

Select this check box to have the selected visual effect transition to black before moving to the destination of the Navigation button.

Options

Use this section to select actions that should take place when the Navigation button is clicked.

• Restore All Devices – Select this check box to restore all devices (graphs, tables, sliders, etc.) as navigation takes place.

  Note: If you select this check box, you cannot select the Restore Graphs/Tables check box.

• Restore Graphs/Tables – Select this check box to restore only graphs and tables as navigation takes place.

  Note: If you select this check box, you cannot select the Restore All Devices check box.

• Password Protect – Select this check box to password-protect camera navigation. When a Navigation button is password protected, model users are prompted to enter the password when they click the Navigation button. The navigation will not take place unless the correct password is given. Passwords are case-sensitive.
• Post a Message – This option is not available in the current version. Select this check box to post a message to the model user when the Navigation button is clicked and you are navigated to the defined location. Navigation buttons with this option work just like information buttons, by displaying text, a graphic, or a QuickTime movie when the button is clicked. To post a message, select this check box, then select the type of message you want to post (Text, Graphic, or Movie), and then either click the Edit Text button to specify the message text, or click the Import button to navigate to and select the graphic file or movie (.MOV) file you want to use.
• Enable Model Layer Toolbar in Runtime – Select this check box to display a Model layer toolbar in the Runtime version. By default, when viewing the Map or Model layer in the Runtime version, the toolbars are hidden to prevent the user from modifying the model structure. Selecting this check box reveals a subset of the tools on the Model toolbar, which allows the user to map out model structure.
• Switch – Select this check box to switch a model entity, module, or sector "on" or "off" in association with camera navigation. To use this option, select the Switch check box, choose Variable or Module or Sector, click the Assign button to select the entity/module/sector that you want to assign to the navigation, and then select whether you want navigation to turn the entity/module/sector On or Off. Each time navigation occurs with this button, the associated model entity/module/sector will be switched on or off accordingly. For entities, numerically "on" is equivalent to a value of 1; "off" is equivalent to a value of 0.
