Release Notes for Stella Online

Stella online is updated regularly to fix reported issues and apply enhancements. When you log in at the exchange you will be using the most up to date version of the software.

As some of the changes that are made may cause the software to behave differently, we keep a log here of when the online software was updated, the corresponding desktop release number, and note any behavior changes that should be expected.

For bug fixes by version number see Defects Fixed (not all will apply to Stella Online).

May 15, 2024 (Desktop Version 3.7)

It is now possible to control border styles on text boxes.

There was a problem with specifying the number of entries in a graphical that has been fixed.

Selecting causal loops from LTM panel would not always generate the expected results.

February 29, 2024 (Desktop Version 3.6)

Tables are now supported in the free online editor. A variety of cleanup was also done.

July 20, 2023 (Desktop Version 3.4.1)

The online editor was not responding correctly to touch events making it difficult to work with tablets and other keyboard free devices.

January 13, 2023 (Desktop Version 3.2.1)

On the scales and ranges panel (#) you can select scientific as one of the scale by options.

June 8, 2022 (Desktop Version 3.0.1)

Loops that MatterTM

The functionality or Loops That MatterTM Overview is now available in the Online model editor. This works the same way it does on the desktop and includes CLD Generation that creates Causal Loop Diagrams for important loops in a model.

Models that were created in the online model editor will have Loops that Matter turned on. You can toggle this from the Model Settings Properties Panel (Online Version).

Resizable Panel

The panel at the right in the Online Model editor can now be resized. To do this simply drag the left edge of the panel.

Connector Colors

There is now an option to set the color on individual connectors in models. This is done by clicking on the Connector and then the Color button.

April 14, 2022 (Desktop Version 3.0)

Equation Viewer

There is now an equation viewer that can be used to see all the equations in an organized form and to copy these to the clipboard for use in notes or documentation. To access this click on the "Equation Viewer" button in the Model Settings Properties Panel (Online Version).

Capacity Increase

There was also a modest increase in the capacity of the free versions of the model and CLD editors.

March 4, 2021 (Desktop Version 2.1.1)

The Diagram (CLD) editor now allows you to place not only words, but also stocks and flows, on the diagram. This can be useful for creating hybrid diagrams, in which some of the stock and flow structure is exposed, and also for mapping model structure that you do not intend to simulate.

Note If you do decide to add equations to a diagram you can do this by downloading the diagram file, and then uploading it as a model.

Also bug fixes and builtin additions related to the desktop version.

September 14, 2020 (Desktop Version 2.0.1)

Small bug fixes and additions related to the 2.0.1 release.

August 21, 2019 (Desktop Version 1.9.2)

Models with security settings are not supported in the online model editor. Uploading anything with security set will now provide an error message.

May 14, 2019 (Desktop Version 1.9)

The documentation tab has been added to the panel allowing you to see (and write) documentation for variables in both the model editor and the CLD editor. It is possible to see equations in the online model player (they show up in the panel as read only text). There were also some bugs fixed that prevented models with optimization settings and model layer navigation links from retaining those settings if they were uploaded, edited, and then downloaded.

February 4, 2019 (Desktop Version 1.8.2)

The navigation sequence for the isee Exchange has changed somewhat making it clearer which tool you are using when logged in. See Getting Started Online for a description of navigation.

October 19, 2018 (Desktop Version 1.8)

There were a number of usability issues when using Safari on the iPad that were addressed. Note that it is important to have the most current version of the iPad OS.

August 27, 2018 (Desktop Version 1.7.1)

Model Sharing

We have improved online model sharing. See Sharing Models Online for more details.

Desktop CLDs

July 30, 2018 (Desktop Version 1.7)

Graph Creation

The creation of graphs has been changed to open a list of variables to graph when you click on the button. See Getting Started Online for a description.

Graph legends will now default to the bottom for new graphs.

Loop Indicator Selection Process

This has changed to make it easier to select loops. See Loop Label Properties for details.

Copying and Pasting

You can copy and past model structure by highlighting it and then using the Right-Click (Ctrl+Click on the Mac) menu to copy and paste.

Builtin Arguments

If you click on a Builtin in the list in the equation editor the arguments will be displayed as _name_ instead of <name>. This means that double clicking will select the entire argument, making it easier to replace.

Persistent Stock Flow Selections

Your selection of different Stock, Flow, Converter, and Connector types will persist between sessions as long as you do not delete your browser's cookies.
